This year, at most Living Heritage Game & Country Shows , we will giving you the chance to Have A Go at Flyball. We will be offering the chance to do some basic training in one of the fastest growing dog sports in the UK and also compete to see which dog can retrieve a ball fastest over each day!
Flyball is a 4 dog relay race. 2 teams of 4 dogs race head to head against each other. Each dog has to go over 4 jumps, trigger a spring loaded box and catch the tennis ball and bring it back over the 4 jumps and pass at full speed with the next dog going down to get their ball. The jumps are set according to the height of the smallest dog in the team. Both teams race against each other to be the first to have all 4 dogs finish. It is a very fast and exciting form of dog racing and usually very loud!
Flyball is one of the fastest growing dog sports in the UK, having originated in the states over 20 years ago. We race under the British Flyball Association (BFA) rules.
The teams are seeded into divisions based on how fast they run so racing is always very close and exciting, no matter how fast or slow the dogs are!
We will have a full Flyball lane set up but with a training chute at the end instead of the normal spring loaded Flyball box and we will set the jumps at the lowest height of 7 inches so all dogs will have the same set up.
Almost any dog can do Flyball, if you want to give it a go then come along to Living Heritage Game shows and Have A Go! or have a look on the BFA website www.flyball.org.uk for a team near you.
Have a Go Flyball will be at all shows except Thame in 2016
